Free Press informs people – neutrally and objectively – about structures, backgrounds, and events, intending to support society and its citizens by having the capacity to act on one's account and attain civic maturity. A worldwide decline of the freedom of information and the press is observed, a danger for functioning democracies.
The name "010090" results out of three numbers the project dealt with the most: "0" and "100" stands for the lowest and the highest possible scores on the World Press Freedom Index respectively; "90" represents 90° angle – the optimal position of a chair seat – and represents the utopia of complete freedom of information and the press. The project aims to allow people’s physical interaction with abstract data and its underlying narrative. Based on the ‘2020 World Press Freedom Index’, by Reporters Without Borders, "010090" helps people to relate to the declining freedom of information and the press by translating each country’s score into ‘data chairs’.
